Abstract
Legal protection of marine biodiversity is one of the important issues in the field of marine environmental protection.
The latter continues to suffer from an ineffective legal framework, despite the fact that numerous scientific reports have sounded the alarm about the significant threats to the marine environment.
In this context, the Convention on Biological Diversity was signed in 1992 as a legal Framework aimed at conservaient biological diversity, ensuring the sustainable use of its components, and the fair sharing of benefits. This convention made biological diversity a “common concern of humankind” and a global responsibility. This description has begun to find its place within the rules of international environmental law, which requires the signatory states to the Convention to assume their responsibilities in this area. To this end, a Conference of the Parties (COP) is held annually to follow up on the commitments of the parties.
